e-business Entrepreneur Visits Wilkes University

Entrepreneur and CEO of BabyAge.com, Inc., Jack Kiefer, recently visited Wilkes University to give a presentation on his experience in e-business. Kiefer spoke to Dr. Ellen Raineri’s MBA e-business for marketers and entrepreneurs class, detailing his employment history and his success as an e-business entrepreneur.

Kiefer possesses a unique combination of business and technical expertise. A veteran of the Internet and e-commerce, Kiefer is no stranger to start-up businesses. Over the course of his career, Kiefer has worked in various industries, including cable, higher education and banking. While employed by Bank of America he was responsible for building the first Fixed Income Trading Intranet for Bank of America, Securities as the Vice President of Corporate Securities Trading.

Kiefer also served as the CTO for iBaby.com, the first e-commerce initiative for iVillage. Kiefer designed and managed the development of the entire e-commerce system for iBaby. The most notable segments of the system included advanced merchandising, tools, as well as complete inventory management. Under his tenure, the iBaby revenues increased (over a 6-month period) from $15k/month to $500K/month.

In 1999, Kiefer started his own e-business, BabyAge.com, Inc. (www.BabyAge.com) which has grown to become a force in the infant and juvenile market. BabyAge.com has being recognized as an innovator and leader in the e-commerce community (currently ranked 280 in the 2007 Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide, a definitive ranking of America's 500 largest e-retailers).

Kiefer also consults start-up and small businesses on their Internet Development and Business and Marketing Planning. Kiefer received his undergraduate degree in Industrial Engineering and his MBA (entrepreneurial management/small business consulting) from Drexel University.
